Are there different qualities of latex?
The quality of latex is dictated by two main factors (1.)the manufacturing process and (2.)the blend of natural and synthetic latex . Although latex has been the premium cushioning material for 60 years it was improved when we began to manufacture synthetic latex and blend it with natural latex. It enabled us to deliver a wider range of firmness and increase the life of the product.
The two different manufacturing processes are the Talalay Process and the Dunlop Process. The Talalay process is more costly but delivers the highest quality available with the widest range of firmness, and the longest lasting consistant comfort level. The mattress cores are produced in individual molds, and undergo vacuum, freezing, heating, and an extensive washing process to eliminate imperfections. With this process we can produce gentle soft latex mattress cores and latex pillows that will still retain long lasting comfort and durability. The Dunlop process has less steps in the production chain, is produced on an open conveyer, and produces latex with a firm feel only. Talalay process produces very soft to super firm latex.
We use only Talalay latex for all our mattresses and mattress toppers

What's the difference between your latex and Nature's Rest?
A lower price without sacrificing quality. Natures Rest is a manufacturer of finished latex mattresses,just as we are. They purchase premium Talalay latex from Latex International the largest supplier of latex in the United States. We too purchase only Talalay latex for our mattresses. The difference is Nature's Rest is sold to sleep shops and mattress stores which in turn sell to the public. We are a manufacturer selling direct to the public, eliminating middleman markups, and passing huge savings along to our customers.

What's the difference between latex and what Temperpedic is made of?
Tempurpedic is made from visco-elastic foam and is a relatively new type of foam in mattress manufacturing. It is temperature sensitive and in cold environments can feel very firm as it molds to your body. And when you move or change positions it is slow to mold to your body. Originally it was offered in only one firmness by Tempurpedic, a little over 6 pound density but now is offering a less firm density in the 5 lb area. unlike latex which offers a wide range of firmnesses.

Is Infinilux the same as latex?
Infinilux is a brand of visco-elastic temperature sensitive foam. It performs the same way Temperpedic's man made foam does. It comes in only one firmness-on the firm side, and tends to sleep warm.

By now latex has been mixed with turpentine to make waterproof cloth. McKintosh raincoats, rubber bands, rubber production machines, erasers of course, and a few other odds and ends soon follow. Enter Charles GOODYEAR…(yes, that Goodyear. ), Chuck accidentally drops a glob of a rubber and sulphur mix on the stove…VULCANIZED! Cured rubber is better rubber. Attempts to develop rubber tree plantations are successful in hot moist climates. The British Empire transplants seedlings from South American forest to Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and Malaysia. Almost all of today's plantations trees come from these seedlings. Tree-mendous really. |

Yearly production of plantation rubber exceeds wild rubber forest production. Grafting and breeding (of the trees that is…) over the years have produced trees that today yield TEN TIMES the rubber of wild trees. World War I--The blockade of Germany creates critical need for the German war machine to get rubber for tanks, trucks, etc.-- search is on for SYNTHETIC RUBBER. Early efforts do not perform well. |

By the beginning of WW II, the Synthetic Rubber need was NOT going to hinder the Nazi war machine. The Germans develop two fairly good types of Synthetic Rubber. BUNA (S)--butadine gas and STYRENE…and BUNA (N) from butadine and acrylonitrile (liquid from acetylene and hydro cyanic acid.) |

Japan captures ALL of the Far East rubber plantations cutting off 90% of the U.S. rubber supply. Overnight the U.S. developed a Synthetic Rubber industry. Today the world uses more Synthetic Rubber than Natural Rubber. One challenge to Synthetic Rubber dominance…the ever growing popularity of radial tires AND…the wondrous quality derived from TALATECH LATEX mattresses and pillows. One word,….PLASTICS! Petro chemical polyurethane plastic foams find their way into every conceivable corner of our lives! Light weight and cheap, they boost profits for mattress makers everywhere as padding components. Tire makers start to discover better profits in hot rod tires, racing tires, raised white letter tires, poly-glass tires and radials too. One more word…water beds! America floats to sleep for the next 20 yr. The exceptional interest in flotation sleep only adds to the diminishing availability of quality latex mattresses throughout the sixties and seventies. |

ARSON FIRE! B.F. Goodrich Sponge Rubber, Shelton, Connecticut. Call the FBI!…50 drums of explosive fuel ignited the dynamite. BOOM! Perhaps the largest arson case in FBI history, the sole remaining latex rubber factory burns to the ground. A poorly designed attempt at insurance fraud is easily exposed. |

Bill Coffey and Steve Kordiak literally pull the latex industry in America from the ashes of the fire and begin at one to concentrate on the latex foam rubber pillow market. |

Latex Foam Products, Inc. The cosmetic industry discovers the quality never stops in American made, 100% synthetic latex applicators. Companies like Clinique, Christain Dior, L'Oreal and many more line up to send LFP on its way to an 85% market share in the industry. |

How many different beds do you make?
We make a solid Talalay core latex mattress with 4 choices of firmness: Soft, medium, firm, and extra firm. We also make a layered Talalay latex mattress called our Select Sleep 8500 which is 8.5". This our most popular as the layers are easily exchanged to fine tune your comfort. (Select sleep 8500 is our FedEx shipable mattress.)
Our third model is the Luxianna, a combination of Talalay latex over individually wrapped coils.
You then select from three foundations- European slatted adjustable foundation, Box Spring, or solid Foundation. Three beds with 30 different comfort levels.

Can each side of bed be a different firmness?
Yes, you may select any of the four firmness levels for either side, and still have the opportunity to change.

What if I choose the wrong feel?
With our "SELECT SLEEP"Latex sleep systems you can make your own bed and then remake it should you error. With four interchangeable components of varying firmness we can fine tune your bed. The only additional cost would be shipping charges.

How does Latex compare to air mattresses such as Select Comfort?
Latex's unique qualities of contouring to your body reduces surface tension. Air mattresses such as Select Comfort do not. Inflating or deflating an air mattress reduces or increases the overall support but does nothing to reduce surface tension which will cause us to toss and turn. This interrupts our sleep so that we wake up feeling unrested.

What are your warranties?
Our warranties are only surpassed by the length of time we have been in business-since 1974. All Lifetime Dreams Latex sleep systems carry a 15 year warranty.

Why aren't the latex mattresses thicker like others the marketplace?
A 5 1/2" latex mattress is more mattress than anyone needs for support. The only reason for adding additional layers is to combine a firm latex mattress core (5 1/2") with a softer comfort layer to accomodate heavier body weights, or comfort preferences. The primary reason bedding manufacturers are making higher profile latex mattress is because latex mattresses have to compete on the showroom floor with thicker innerspring mattresses. In the majority of cases any latex mattress over 8.5" will contain a non-latex component as the base layer. |
